College of Social Communication Innovation
The College of Social Communication Innovation,
founded on July 7, 2006, was established with the purpose of creating equilibrium
between communication and the media in the society. This necessitates
the development of individuals who will be able to take control and deal with the
changes in communication technology, which relies on new and different ways of
thinking.
The College of Social Communication Innovation will be
an educational and research institution based on the integrated sciences of
communication and technology, business administration and the arts in order to
create a body of knowledge designed to keep up with current trends. We
believe that the equilibrium are integration will develop the media as a tool that
will bring many advantages to our society.
One
example would be entertainment communications, which will evolve into educational
entertainment for the next generation.
Moreover,
the College of Social Communication Innovation will also play a major role in
motivating the Thai society to be more up-to-date on
current media changes and their impact on our daily life.
The programs integration of the College of Social
Communication Innovation are interdisciplinary, in that they integrate a
diverse range of knowledge from other institutions and the real world. In other words, this integrated knowledge
will be drawn from specialists from many other institutions in the university
along with those from other private organizations. The
programs plan to embrace the learning environments and teaching methods – from
the learning environments of the laboratory to cooperative education through the
cooperation of both public and private sector, from both local and
international institutions.
There will be an emphasis on bilingual education,
particularly that emphasizing instructions in both Thai and English language. This will enable our students to communicate
more effectively in a world that is now defined by rapid change on both the
local, national and international levels. Studying core courses about art, culture,
nature and environment, the students can develop an ideological perspective in
tandem with traditional virtues that are a necessity in the postmodern world. The ideological aspect is crucial as it will directly
affect social communication in a future world in which these graduates will be
playing an important role. SWU’s “Prasarnmit” campus
is located in a prime area of Bangkok, dominated by the entertainment industry,
mass media and advertising firms.
This area also boasts Thailand’s Cultural Center
and an international convention center.
This
area is also very accessible with major public transit available – the BTS
on Sukhumwit Road, the MRT on Petchaburi Road, buses on Asoke-montri
Road and the ferry at Saensab canal. Most
significantly, a transit center from SWU to Suvannabhumi International Airport
Rail Link has recently been completed.
All
of these factors allow SWU to extend its role in social communication to offer
perspective students to gain direct experience of and to monitor the social
changes and advances taking place around them.
